Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
The parliamentary group of Coalition for Bulgaria, led by the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, will support the proposal for new Cabinet.
The statement was made in the Parliament Wednesday by BSP MP, Yanaki Stoilov, who spoke after it emerged that the needed quorum of 121 MPs to vote on the new Cabinet proposal has been reached.
The proposal was tabled by former Finance Minister, Plamen Oresharski, who was nominated for Prime Minister by BSP.
Stoilov said the results of the May 12 early general elections were good as they did not designate the latest messiah and turned into a symbol of political sobering.
He, however, noted that some unaddressed issues in the "Plan Oresharski" have distanced left-wing voters from the Socialists.
The MP listed among them: tax policy to help the poorest Bulgarians, introducing family income tax, measures to revive the undeveloped Bulgarian regions, and combining social and educational functions of schools.
"Those self-proclaimed right-wingers, such as the formerly-ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, probably like the "Oresharski" program better than I do, so I call on them to support the new Cabinet. We will support it, but for us the will of the voters is supreme," said he, calling on future ministers to forget personal benefits and not serve corporate interests.
Stoilov stressed radical socialism could reinstate trust in the left-wing in Bulgaria and across Europe.
Stoilov was rumored to become the Speaker of the 42nd General Assembly as well as Deputy PM without Portfolio, but none materialized.
