Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has declared that controversial ex-Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov will not be part of his potential new government.

Tsvetanov, who is Borisov’s closest aide and a key official of the center-right GERB party, faces charges of failing to exercise proper control over the use of special surveillance devices during his term in office.

Even though Borisov request a cancellation of the results of the May 12 parliamentary elections, he told reporters that GERB would accept a government mandate if the results are not cancelled.

As local media predicted earlier on Thursday, he announced that the discredited former Interior Minister will not be included in GERB’s Cabinet proposal.

Tsvetanov is expected to remain a senior GERB official.

GERB's proposal for a government line-up is highly likely to be rejected by all other formations in the country's 42nd General Assembly.

Borisov explained his surprising request for cancelation of the election results with the overnight raid of the prosecuting authority and the State Agency for National Security at the Konstinbrod printing house on the eve of Election Day.

He claimed that the operation had triggered a serious breach of electoral silence on the day of reflection, adding that it was best to hold new elections.
