Petar Mutafchiev from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) has suggested that the best scenario for Bulgaria after the May 12 general elections is a broad coalition government

In a Monday interview for the Focus news agency, Mutafchiev, former Transport Minister in the three-way coalition government, suggested that the task of forming a government would be difficult.

Mutafchiev noted that center-right party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) was first in line as it had won the largest number of votes.

Mutafchiev said that if GERB rejected the mandate to form a government, BSP would study the option of forming a program government.

He argued that Bulgaria needed a government which enjoyed substantial support by the political forces and offered a clear program and commitments.

According to preliminary reports of Bulgaria's Central Electoral Commission (CEC) based on 96% of the processed protocols, center-right party GERB won 30.71% of the vote at the May 12 elections, BSP scored 27.02%, the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms party (DPS) was backed by 10.59% and the nationalist party Ataka by 7.38%.
