Politics » ELECTIONS 2013 | May 12, 2013, Sunday // 19:06

The small Bulgarian Greens party has come out winning the vote in Tokyo, the first polling station counted in Bulgaria's Sunday snap general elections.

Of 68 Bulgarian citizens who cast their vote in Japan's capital, the Greens have the support of 18, writes Eurochicago.com.

They are followed by former main opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party with 16 votes, former rulers GERB - 13 votes, and new Bulgaria for Citizens party with 6 votes.

Polling stations are now closed in most locations in Asia, with the voting day in Bulgaria to conclude at 8 pm EET.

The Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Ministry has announced that close to 72,000 Bulgarians have already cast their votes abroad, more than half of them in neighboring Turkey.

Ahead of elections, opinion polls suggested that the Greens, who are taking part in their second general elections, are not likely to pass the 4% threshold.
