Bulgaria: Bulgaria Ex-PM Borisov on Election Day: Prosecution Plays 'Vile' Boyko Borisov (R) speaking at the GERB closing campaign event Friday, alongside GERB campaign chief Tsvetan Tsvetanov (C) and former Infrastrucutre Minister Lilyana Pavlova (L). BGNES

Former Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov has resumed his anti-institutional rhetoric on election day Sunday, by saying the prosecution has engaged in "a vile insinuation."

Right after casting his ballot in the town of Bankya outside of Sofia, Borisov commented on the Saturday scandal, in which 350,000 illegally printed ballots were uncovered by law enforcement officials.

According to Borisov, the investigation was carried out unprofessionally, and the ballots should have been intercepted Sunday to see their addressees.

Speculations are rife in Bulgaria that it was Borisov's party GERB that was to benefit from the ballots, as the owner of the printing house is known to be close to the party.

"Today, they would have been detaining in different towns people who received and filled in the ballots for the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms," said Borisov.

Thus in effect he alleged that it was his main political rivals who would have benefit for the illegal stock of surplus ballots.

"The prosecution's operation is one vile insinuation," said Bulgaria's former PM.

Borisov slammed his the Socialist, the MRF and the prosecution for having staged what he claimed is a smear campaign against him and GERB.
