Bulgaria’s former European Commissioner and current centrist party leader Meglena Kuneva voted in the country’s general elections early on Sunday.
“If we care about the country, if we love the country, we should show it,” Kuneva, who is the leader of recently formed centrist outfit Bulgaria for Citizens, said upon voting.
“If we do not have plans for today, then our plans for the future years are worth nothing,” she told reporters.
Kuneva said that the illegal ballot scandal that erupted on Saturday should not be left without consequences.
Bulgarians are voting in a tight snap election in which no party is expected to win a majority to form a government. Recent opinion polls indicate that the center-right GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party are nearly tied.
The Bulgaria for Citizens party is likely to obtain seats in Parliament, according to some pollsters.
