The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has pressed charges against Tatyana Sharlandzhieva, investigator from the National Investigative Service.
She faces charges under Article 288, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code in connection with Article 26, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code for failing to fulfill her professional obligations in connection with a money laundering investigation, thereby obstructing the penalty for Krasimir Georgiev, owner of the private consulting company "Frontier."
The charges concern the period August 2, 2006 to October 11, 2006, according to a media statement of the prosecuting authority.
Sharlandzhieva has been imposed a remand measure of signed promise for appearance.
The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office also informs that they have submitted a proposal with Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov to demand Sharlandzhieva's dismissal on disciplinary grounds by the Supreme Judicial Council (VSS).
The fresh charges actually reopen a trial against Sharlandzhieva which was terminated six years ago.
The investigation was part of one of the major scandals plaguing the judiciary and the executive branch, dnevnik.bg informs, adding that the affairs resulted in the resignations of then-head of the National Investigative Service Angel Aleksandrov and then-Energy Minister Rumen Ovcharov.
The reopening of the case came after Yane Yanev, leader of the marginal conservative Order, Law and Justice party (RZS), submitted scores of folders with documents concerning energy trials with the prosecuting authority.
