The 'watergate' scandal has dealt a deadly blow to former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, spelling the end of his political career, argues rightist party chair Ivan Kostov.

“It is quite obvious that the government of Boyko Borisov and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov restored the practices of the secret police during the communist regime,” Ivan Kostov, leader of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria and former prime minister commented in an interview for BGNES.

“What has happened means that not a single political party in Bulgaria’s next parliament will not allow Borisov and Tsvetanov to get away unpunished.”

"The scandalous recordings spell the political demise of these politicians, which will reflect on the party GERB. GERB does not have the capacity to survive this shock," said another Kostov.

Latest polls show that Bulgaria's Socialists have closed the gap with the center-right GERB party of former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov,

An opinion poll, released just two days before the crucial general elections on Sunday, put support for GERB at 24%, closely followed by the Socialists on 23.6%.

The nationalist Attack, ethnic Turkish MRF and pro-business Bulgaria for the Citizens are all said to have the potential to beat the 4% threshold and enter parliament, but the ethnic Turkish party is the only sure bet.
