Eggs were thrown from the audience live on air against former Bulgarian ruling party GERB candidate MP Dobroslav Dimitrov in a major channel TV7 show, after which Dimitrov threw a glass at the journalist.

The strange scandal comes just days ahead of the May 12 early general elections in Bulgaria.

The GERB party has already issued a statement that it will no more take part in any TV7 shows, minutes after the incident Tuesday evening.

The journalist involved, Nikolay Barekov, is well known in Bulgaria, and has previously worked for another major channel, bTV, before becoming a leading figure for TV7.

In past years, commenters observed that Barekov and TV7 were highly favorable of GERB and their leader and former Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov.

But this relation seems to have soured in previous weeks, with Barekov issuing strong criticisms of Bulgaria's former rulers.

After the live in studio incident, TV7 issued a statement quoting Barekov as saying that GERB's leaders are "people who sow hate, and will reap storms at the elections."

Barekov also blames the GERB's rule for economic stagnation and poverty, and warns he will sue Dimitrov for throwing the glass at him.

In their statement, GERB are sharply critical of the perceived bias of the TV7 and the journalists, repeatedly using the word "free" in quotation marks as a sign of irony.

The party also slams TV7 and Barekov for not ensuring normal conditions for the participants in their show.
