A homeless man of Bulgarian origin came across a stash of French army weapons while looking through garbage bins in Paris.

On April 28, the 43-year-old man was rummaging through bins near the Canal Saint-Martin in the 19th arrondissement when he found a pile of weapons in one container, according to reports of Le Figaro, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA).

The man found a 6.35-calibre automatic pistol, four grenades, 16 rounds of ammunition, and a mortal shell for an M-58 armoured vehicle, as used by the French army, in a bin at Place Stalingrad.

A bomb disposal unit was dispatched to the site to remove the arms stash.

The man also told the police about a wooden box full of grenades in the same area which had been taken away by a dump truck.

Police found that the weapons had been thrown out by the family of a local collector who had died recently.

An investigator condemned the step as absolutely thoughtless, adding that the arms had been functional and could have easily ended up in the wrong hands.
