Will Bulgaria Have a Stable Government After Yet Another Election in June? Our Readers Have Spoken
On our Facebook page, readers were asked about Bulgaria's stability after the June elections
Caretaker Bulgarian PM Marin Raykov has refused to comment his predecessor Boyko Borisov's behavior in a recently leaked controversial recorded conversation, which according to him is unfair to the ex PM.
Although Raykov said that doing so would be an improper position-taking just ahead of looming May 12 general elections, the caretaker PM went on to describe Borisov as a "victim" of the events.
"Don't expect me to give an assessment of my predecessor. Such an assessment would mean that I am entering the campaign with opinions that can influence," said the PM at a press conference Tuesday.
"I was not present at that conversation, and I don't know whether it took place in this way. but if this is a recording without Borisov's consent, then I think that's the greater problem," explained Raykov.
"Such wiretapping practices are impermissible. In the specific case, it was Bulgaria's former PM who fell victim to them," stated he.
Last Friday, a highly controversial conversation recording leaked involving former PM Boyko Borisov, ex Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov and now resigned Sofia City Prosecutor Nikolay Kokinov.
In the conversation, the three discuss, amidst a plethora of expletives, ways to thwart ongoing proceedings against Naydenov, who has been charged with abuse of power.
Kokinov is also heard revealing to his interlocutors yet unpublished details of an investigation that found massive violations in the use of special surveillance devicesunder Borisov and his Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov.
