The strong explosion of a leaky gas pipe that caused significant damage of a building in Prague’s historic center on Monday has probably killed up to four people, according to reports.

Emergency services chief Zdenek Schwarz has told reporters that three or four dead people may be buried in the rubble of the damaged building.

Over 40 people were injured in the powerful explosion, which police said was believed to have been caused by a gas leak.

Police have sealed off the popular tourist area and evacuated around 220 people from several nearby buildings, according to Sky News.

Meanwhile, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has informed that no Bulgarian nationals have been injured in the explosion.
