Sergey Stanishev, leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), has been summoned to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for a questioning relating to the tip-off he submitted in end-March about illegal wiretapping.
On Tuesday, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, former Interior Minister and election campaign manager of center-right party GERB, spent almost the entire day testifying at the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office in connection with the corruption charges pressed against anti-mafia police head Stanimir Florov and the illegal wiretapping scandal unleashed by the signal the BSP leader.
Stanishev is to appear at the Specialized Prosecutor's Office at 1 pm on Wednesday.
The signal submitted by the socialist leader in end-March concerned illegal use of special surveillance devices by Interior Ministry officials against party leaders, presidents, politicians, and businessmen during Tsvetanov's term in office as Interior Minister.
The tip-off was referred to Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov, who assigned the investigation to a team of 12 prosecutors.
Citing the results of the probe, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office pressed charges Tuesday against three former directors of the Specialized Directorate Technical Operations of the Interior Ministry (SDOTO), Sergey Katsarov, Kamen Kostov and Tsvetan Ivanov, and one employee of the unit, for failure to perform official duties which entailed serious consequences.
The current director of SDOTO, Sergey Katsarov, was also been charged with document fraud, while Radko Dimitrov, head of a department at SDOTO, was charged with committing a crime against justice.
