Bulgaria's Borissov: Eurozone Entry Is My Mission—What Comes Next, Only God Knows
GERB leader Boyko Borissov reaffirmed his commitment to guiding Bulgaria into the eurozone, stating that nothing would divert him from this goal
Center-right GERB party leader and former Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov has stated he stands firmly behind right hand man, ex Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov.
Monday Bulgaria's Prosecutor's Office announced findings of an investigation that had shown rampant violations in the way special surveillance devices were used by the police during Tsvetanov's time as minister.
While rival political leaders asked for Tsvetanov's resignation from the GERB leadership, Tsvetanov's initial position was that findings are inconclusive and do not implicate him in any way.
Later GERB released a statement, saying that the prosectuion report actually exonerated Tsvetanov.
"I guarantee you that Tsvetanov was not mislead and he did not do those things. Truth about this will emerge sooner or later," stated GERB leader Borisov at a campaign event in Samokov Monday evening.
As the earlier party press release, Borisov went on to recall wiretapping scandals that occured with governments prior to his own, as well as to criticize rival politicians for perceived misdeeds for which however they have not been convicted by a court.
Ivan Portnih, candidate of Bulgaria’s formerly ruling center-right party GERB, has won the battle for mayor of the coastal city of Varna by a slim margin.
Two candidates are vying to be mayor of Bulgaria's third-largest city and summer capital, Varna on the Black Sea coast.
The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office final count of the alleged illegal ballots discovered at a printing house in Kostinbrod hours ahead of the May 12 early elections is 480 000.
The number of apparently illegally printed ballots for Bulgaria's May 12 early general elections has swollen to at least 400,000, according to an announcement by the prosecution.
Bulgaria's formerly-ruling, center-right GERB Party has sent its claim contesting and asking to void the May 12 early general elections results to all European institutions.
Bulgaria's Constitutional Court has decided to try the claim contesting and asking to void the May12 early general elections results.
