Rival Bulgarian Socialist Party is issuing a fake rhetoric, but is actually not ready to rule Bulgaria, according to GERB leader and former PM Boyko Borisov.

Friday evening GERB officially opened their campaign for upcoming May 12 early general elections at the ancient theater in Plovdiv.

Sunday they are expected to stage a similar event at Varna, another of Bulgaria's major cities.

"They are in fact not preparing themselves to rule. They are afraid, for all that they have been doing is subversive activities," said Borisov referring to the Socialists.

He further alleged that as PM 2005-9, Socialist leader Sergey Stanishev had been "a puppet" to controversial former Movement for Rights and Freedoms leader Ahmed Dogan.

GERB campaign boss and vice-chair Tsvetan Tsvetanov also spoke at the event, which attracted some 4,000 people.
