The 'Mysterious' Ways of Bulgarian Prosecution: The 'Mysterious' Ways of Bulgarian Prosecution

Bulgarian journalist Boris Mitov was threatened with charges of leaking State secrets for publishing an article criticizing notorious prosecutor Roman Vasilev.

In it, Mitov raises doubts Vasilev is fit to probe tipoffs of illegal wiretapping during GERB's term as the prosecutor himself has committed a number of breaches in the use of special surveillance devices. The journalist attached two scans to document his assertion.

The swift reaction prompted new outrage over freedom of speech infringements.

The case also brought again to the forefront the issue with the modus operandi of the prosecution:

They demanded from the journalist to disclose his sources.

The said scans were read in public during a court session in a trial as the judges deemed there were no grounds to classify the evidence.

As a clear indication prosecution in Bulgaria refuses to probe documented abuse of office, made even graver by the fact it was committed by one of their own, Sofia City Prosecutor Kokinov made the baffling statement he found Mitov's article intriguing, nevertheless, his office was NOT interested in the content and only wanted to know who and how leaked the scans.

There are disciplinary proceedings against Kokinov over breaches in office.

Prosecution in Bulgaria does work in mysterious ways.
