The incident took place at the intersection of "Doiran" and "Nishava" streets before 11:00 p.m. on Thursday
Blacksmith, Dimitar Dimitrov, 53, the only surviving Bulgarian self-immolator, says he was sorry for his act.
Dimitrov was recently awaken from induced coma and is breathing on his own. Surgeries are pending, but his life is out of danger.
The first words he told his father Kiril were "I am sorry I did it," the Bulgarian 24 Chassa (24 Hours) daily writes Monday.
Kiril, who has stable income and is able to help his son and his other child, still wonders why Dimitar has committed the desperate act. He says his son is a very skilled blacksmith, and has two great women in his life – a daughter and a girlfriend.
The father's only explanation is people's meanness as a neighbor caused the closure of Dimitar's blacksmith shop in complaining about the noise.
"He lost his bellowed job and went insane. Dimitar is a very generous person; he donated iron crosses and fences to a number of churches. This is why God saved him," Kiril has stated.
