Bulgaria’s center-right GERB party has once again blamed the difficulties it had while in power on the preceding three-way coalition government.

“Governing was difficult, since we inherited a difficult legacy,” former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who is currently in charge of GERB’s election headquarters, told party members on Sunday.

Tsvetanov thanked all GERB delegates for their support and loyalty.

Nearly 15 000 GERB members and supporters attended the party’s national conference in Sofia on Sunday.

Former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov made his first public appearance in several weeks during the event.

Borisov and his GERB Cabinet resigned on February 21 amidst massive protest rallies against poverty, stagnation and political corruption. Snap general elections will be held on May 12, just two months ahead of the regularly scheduled date.
