Bulgarian Govt Blocks Uncovered Construction in Protected Area

Bulgaria's Ministry of Infrastructure has ordered the cessation of construction activities in a site in the Ropotamo nature reserve near the Black Sea.
The ongoing construction without due permit in the protected area was revealed Monday by investigative website Bivol.bg.
Inspection has shown that a building with an area of 400 sq.m. is being constructed on the bank of the Ropotamo River to replace an older restaurant.
The construction project does not have the required permits and has been referred to the Primorsko municipal authorities for enforcement of the ministry's order.
The contractor, Venis Marina EOOD, has a permit to organize boat trips on the river, which flows into the Black Sea just north of the Primorsko resort town.
According to Bivol.bg, the company is under the control of local shady businessmen, such as Hristoforos Amanatidis, who is wanted on charges of drug trafficking.
Burgas enviromnmental agency head Boycho Georgiev has gained notoriety in a similar incident involving construction on Natura 2000 protected sand dunes in the resort town of Nessebar.
