Code yellow for potentially dangerous weather has been declared over parts of southern Bulgaria due to heavy rains expected Tuesday.

The code has been announced for Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Smolyan, Kardzhali and Haskovo regions, said Bulgaria's National Institute of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Rains expected to start Monday night and continue through Tuesday are expected to reach 30-40 liters per sq.m. in some areas.

Highs Tuesday will be in a broad range, reaching some 15 degrees Centigrade in parts of southern Bulgaria, but not passing over 5-6 C in the north.

Precipitation expected from the west will be in the form of snow in northern Bulgaria and in higher elevations, informed the national weather service.
