Bulgarian Nationalists Wink to Former Rulers ahead of Elections

Politics » ELECTIONS 2013 | March 25, 2013, Monday // 19:15

Bulgarian nationalist Ataka party submitted to national election authorities its registration for May 12 early general elections.

Monday Ataka leader Volen Siderov filed with Bulgaria's Central Electoral Commission a list of 21,000 signatures in support of his party, well over the 10,000 require.

"We can witness a steady growth in support for Ataka," said Siderov, who was confident that his party will enter Bulgaria's next parliament.

Recently a staunch critic of the cabinet of former Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov and his GERB party, the nationalist leader added that no errors are irreparable.

"Everyone can mend his or her mistakes. But trust will be reviewed on a regular basis," said Siderov.

He further did not rule out the possibility of a coalition between Ataka and GERB in the next parliament, depending on whether "GERB have learned the lessons from their rule."

Monday, another party that was part of Bulgaria's now dissolved 41th parliament, the populist Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party led by Yane Yanev, also registered for the May 12 vote.

Self-styled liberal Lider party, known to be controlled by controversial businessman Hristo Kovachki, was the third party that filed documents for the elections Monday.
