Bulgaria's former European Commissioner Meglena Kuneva has strongly criticized the country's current caretaker government, stating that it is merely an upgraded version of ex-PM Boyko Borisov's GERB cabinet.

"The caretaker cabinet is actually GERB – save for the fact that its speaks foreign languages," Kuneva told reporters on Friday.

Kuneva, who is the leader of the recently established Bulgaria for Citizens party, declared that she would not be afraid to take the responsibility of becoming Bulgaria's next Prime Minister.

"The Bulgaria for Citizens Movement is a long-term political project. We have been preparing for elections ever since we were established and the people are motivated. This project belongs to the citizens who are willing to take the responsibility for their own lives and are looking for ways to demand responsibility from the politicians," she said.

Kuneva stated that her party will not enter a coalition with the center-right GERB party, the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms or the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

Bulgaria for Citizens will present its program on March 28.

President Rosen Plevneliev installed a caretaker government on March 12 after last month's resignation of the center-right GERB government that was triggered by massive protests against poverty, corruption and shockingly high utility bills.

Snap elections are to take place on May 12.
