Bulgaria's Deputy Ministers of Agriculture, Education, Resign

Svetlana Boyanova, Bulgaria's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, filed her resignation Tuesday, saying that the new Minister had to be given the opportunity to pick their team.

"We achieved a lot, but people must be aware when they are to pass the baton. I have always worked for a more modern agricultural sector and more attractive rural regions and it will continue to be so in the future," Boyanova stated, as cited by Sega daily.

Earlier on Tuesday, Deputy Education Minister Milena Damyanova also resigned.

"My main goals were to work with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Yordanka Fandakova as the first Education Minister in the GERB government, and support the government program of GERB. Since civil society decided to withdraw their trust in the ruling party, it seems only logical and ethical for all of us to step down," she stated

On Monday, Valentina Simeonova, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policy, resigned, citing personal reasons.

On March 1, Karina Karaivanova resigned as Deputy Minister of Finance after less than three months in office to move to another position at the Finance Ministry.

Bulgaria's center-right GERB government resigned on February 20 amid mass protests over high heating and electricity bills and low incomes.

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev is to announce the panel of the caretaker government on Tuesday and the early elections are scheduled for May 12.
