The Czech government has demanded that the European Commission put pressure on Bulgaria after the Balkan country said it would revoke the license of the CEZ energy group, according to a report.
The Bulgarian government of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov resigned last week in reaction to mass protests against high prices of electricity in the country, which were partly targeted at the local distribution branch of CEZ.
A day before he surprisingly resigned, Borisov said CEZ's distribution licence in Bulgaria should be revoked within the coming hours. According to the Bulgarian prosecutor's office, CEZ "systematically violated" rules.
According to FriedlNews, the Czech government has criticized Bulgaria's move to withdraw the license of CEZ as "politically motivated".
Prime Minister Petr Necas has called Commissioners G?nther Oettinger (Energy), Stefan F?le (Enlargement) and Joaquin Alumunia (Competition) to help the Czech government, the news website reports.
Necas underlined that Bulgaria must comply with international standards and contracts.
"I expect that a member of the EU protects foreign investments," he said.
