24KG OF MARIJUANA SEIZED AT SOUTNERN CHECKPOINT

The customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing intercepted a shipment of 24 kg of marijuana. A sniffer dog discovered the drug in an incoming Mercedes car with Albanian registration bound for Turkey. The marijuana was stashed in the spare tyre and in a secret compartment in the tank. The 38-year-old driver, an Albanian citizen, has been detained. The case has been handed over to the Investigation Service-Svilengrad. 86 kg of marijuana and hashish, 675 kg of heroin and 52 kg of amphetamine have been seized so far in 2001 at this particular border crossing.
