The captain and the co-pilot were among those killed, according to reports of Interfax.

Four seriously injured passengers are being treated at three Moscow-based hospitals, according to ITAR-TASS, as cited by Bulgarian Darik radio.

The aircraft of the Russian low-cost Red Wings airline skidded off the runway, burst through a perimeter fence onto the Kiev Highway, and its right wing caught fire.

Vladimir Markin, Spokesperson of Russia's Investigative Committee, told journalists that the preliminary version for the plane crash involved a pilot error.

He also made clear that a criminal case over possible flight safety violations had been opened.

Czech airport officials, as cited by ITAR-TASS, claimed that the crew had not reported any technical problems during the stay of the Tu-2014 aircraft in Pardubice.
