Bulgaria: Why the World Didn't End on 12/21/2012: Scientists Reveal How the Mayans Got It Wrong The Team of Novinite.bg and Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency) wishes you, our readers from around the world – a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The forebodings about the end of the world on December 21, 2012, according to the calendar of the Ancient Mayans, were fully justified because they were based on precise predictions about the events in contemporary Bulgaria around that date, scientists have found.

However, the scientific community has several theories about which epoch-making events in Bulgaria in 2012 led the ancient astrologists of the Mayans to decide that their calendar has to end on December 21 – a fact that horrified the international community, though not so much the Bulgarian community, which has already witnessed the end of the world several times.

According to one of the theories, the Mayans decided the world should end in December 2012 in order to prevent a potential election apocalypse in Bulgaria in 2013.

Following the same logic, a number of researchers believe that by predicting the end of the world the Mayans wanted to free the Bulgarian authorities from the obligation to absorb EU funds, and to complete Danube Bridge 2, and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov – from the tough job of cutting ribbons at the opening of highway sections, sports arenas, and other sites which are as significant as the pyramids in Central America.

Another theory has it that the Mayans decided the world should end before Christmas in 2012 since the deeply reformed and highly effective Bulgarian government wouldn't be able to bear one more unfairly negative monitoring report by the European Commission.

Still another group of researchers holds the view that thousands of years ago the ancient Central American astrologists predicted the shocking case of judge Markovska in the Bulgarian judiciary, and on top of that they picked December 21, 2012, as the day for the end of the world to prevent the election of a new "same-old" Chief Prosecutor in Bulgaria.

A smaller group of scientists believe that the failure to repeal the full public space smoking ban in Bulgaria caused the prediction of the end of the world, at least for some.

However, the most plausible of all (pseudo)scientific theories about why the Mayans predicted the end of the world on December 21, 2012, is the one stating that the Ancient Mayans were of Macedonian origin (the indisputable proof for that being that both "Mayans" and "Macedonians" start with the letter "M"), and they couldn't bear the fact that Bulgaria's government declared itself against the setting of a date for the start of Macedonia's EU accession talks.

Regardless of these theories, though, readers of Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency) told us that in fact there will be an end of the world, and that it was simply postponed at the request of a group of Bulgarians who had stocked up so much food and drinks for Christmas and New Year's that they sent a petition for postponing the world's end to NATO, the European Commission, Gazprom, OSCE, and the young North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

And since the world didn't end on December 21, 2012, and a new world – or at least a new year – will be born with the upcoming holidays –
