** BIRTHDAY GIRL **
Comedy and romance
93 minutes
An English bank manager (Chaplin) orders a mail-order Russian bride (Nicole Kidman) over the Internet, but soon finds his life tipped topsy-turvy as she exhibits an unexpected possible dangerous side, accented by the arrival of two Russian cousins (Cassel, Kassovitz). (I've seen more of the film's plot; but to say much more than this seems like it might give away some spoilers; I hate doing that)
** NO MAN'S LAND**
Comedy and Drama
1 hr. 28 min.
Ciki and Nino, a Bosnian and a Serb, are soldiers stranded in a trench between enemy lines during the Bosnian war. They have no one to trust, no way to escape without getting shot and a fellow soldier is lying on the trench floor with a spring-loaded bomb set to explode beneath him if he moves. With the two men stuck in a bizarre predicament, a frustrated UN sergeant tries to help, despite orders to remain at his post. When a journalist waylays the sergeant while pushing for an exclusive scoop, she affects the unfolding of events and turns a news story into an international circus. With the world's press waiting for an outcome, no one willing to take action (lest they accept responsibility) and a soldier still stuck with a bomb beneath him, Ciki and Nino try to keep their humanity amidst the insanity of war.
**THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE**
Drama and sports
127 minutes
A WWI veteran and war hero (Damon) is asked to play two of the great golf players of the time (1931), Walter Hagen (McGill) and Bobby Jones (Gretsch), in a 36-hole match game to open a local golf course. Helping him get his game back after years away is a mysterious golf caddy, Bagger Vance (Smith), whose advice on how to deliver "The Authentic Swing" also seems to have relevance in how to live life as well.
**AUSTIN POWERS IN GOLDMEMBER**
Comedy
1 hr. 33 min. It's been three years since Austin Powers, that swinging international man of mystery, has had to face his arch enemy, Dr. Evil. But after Dr. Evil and his accomplice Mini-Me escape from a maximum-security prison, Austin is called to action once more in this third installment of the highly successful Austin Powers movie franchise. Teaming up with the mysterious yet peculiar Goldmember, Dr. Evil hatches a time-traveling scheme to take over the world, one that involves the kidnapping of Nigel Powers, Austin's beloved father and England's most renowned spy. As he chases the villains through time, Austin visits 1975 and joins forces with his old flame, Foxxy Cleopatra, a streetwise but stylish detective. Together Austin and Foxxy must find a way to save Nigel and stop Dr. Evil and Goldmember from their mischievous mayhem.
