Andrey Kehayov, former head of the Bulgarian Medical Association (2002-2008) has been exposed as a former secret agent of the country's totalitarian State Security.

On Wednesday, Bulgaria's so-called Files Commission, a panel in charge of investigating the Communist era secret files and of exposing people at senior positions as agents of the former Communist State Security, exposed the State Security collaborators among senior members of the Bulgarian Medical Association and the Bulgarian Red Cross.

Kehayov was recruited as a secret agent in 1988, a year before the collapse of the Communist regime, at the age of 22.

The Files Commission checked 43 members of the Bulgarian Medical Association and exposed a total of five of them as former secret agents.

Bulgarian Red Cross head Hristo Grigorov was exposed as a former Communist spy already in September, when the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry was checked for former State Security collaborators.

The blacklist of former state security agents and collaborators already features now-ex President and former Socialist leader, Georgi Parvanov, former constitutional judges, supreme magistrates, investigators, members of parliament, bishops, prominent and well-known former and current Bulgarian journalists, as well as ambassadors and diplomats abroad.
