NEW TOBACCO STANDARDS POSTPONED

Business | August 17, 2001, Friday // 00:00

The minimum tobacco quality requirements will be mandatory for tobacco producers from the beginning of next year. This is envisaged by the latest amendment to the implementing regulations for the Tobacco and Tobacco Goods Act approved by the ministers yesterday. The decree will become effective from the beginning of 2002 and
will concern the contracts that will be sign for next year`s harvest. The stricter quality requirements actually reduce the procurement price of tobacco by some BGN 0.50-0.60 per kilogram of produce, which on a national scale makes up some BGN 25 million, minister of state administration Dimitar Kalchev commented. This amount cannot be covered at present by the Tobacco Fund nor by the budget.
