Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, pledged Sunday to not intervene in the scandal shaking the right-wing Union of Democratic Forces, UDF, over the nomination of a constitutional judge.

Speaking from the town of Etropole, near the capital Sofia, at the opening ceremony for facilities repaired with EU funding, the PM commented in the aftermath of former right-wing President, Petar Stoyanov (1997 – 2001) declining UDF's Constitutional Court nomination.

Borisov stressed that when he held talks with UDF leader, Emil Kabaivanov, on the subject at the beginning of the week, he never gave an opinion about any particular candidate.

"If they can find a solution for their internal issues, my ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, will support their candidate," he reiterated Sunday.

Regarding the earlier nomination of Ekaterina Mihaylova, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament from the other right-wing party, Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, DSB, who failed to receive support during the scandalous and flopped first attempt of the parliamentary voting, the PM noted it had been a "marvelous candidature."

When asked if he was alarmed about a possible interim report of the European Commission if the election of the country's new Chief Prosecutor turns as outrageous as the election of constitutional judges, the PM stressed that all three candidates were excellent professionals with clean biographies and any of the three would make an outstanding Chief Prosecutor.
