Long-Serving Head of Bulgaria Satirical Newspaper Dies at 85
Hristo Pelitev, a popular Bulgarian writer and journalist, who served 23 years as editor-in-chief of the Bulgarian newspaper of humor and satire "Starshel", passed away on Thursday. He was 85.
Pelitev was born on April 22, 1927 in the village of Gradnitsa, Gabrovo region.
He studied Law and Slavic Philology at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".
Published his first short story on the pages of "People's Youth" and later managed the humorist section of the newspaper.
Since 1960, Pelitev served as editor, deputy editor and for 23 years as editor-in-chief of "Starshel" (Hornet) newspaper, the most popular Bulgarian weekly of humor and satire.
A member of the Union of Bulgarian Writers, Hristo Pelitev published 20 books, including a collection of humorous and satirical prose, many of which have been translated abroad.
