Germany to Pay Reparations to E Europe Holocaust Survivors

World | November 15, 2012, Thursday // 16:42

Germany has agreed to pay reparations to 80,000 Holocaust survivors from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, stated Thursday German Minister of Finance Wolfgang Schaeuble.

"There are still many people in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union that have not yet received what they are owed by right," stated Schaeuble.

The German minister is to sign later Thursday an agreement with Holocaust victims rights organization Jewish Claims Conference, which will be an updated version of the 1952 Luxembourg agreement.

According to Schaeuble, the sheer immensity of the crimes during the Holocaust makes it hard to seek out and compensate all survivors.

The Jewish Claims Conference estimates that currently 500,000 persons living across the globe are Holocaust victims.
