The Bulgarian Ministry of Interior has received donations totalling close to EUR 3 M for the first 9 months of 2012, according to a report by wide circulation Bulgarian daily Trud.

Donations for the Interior Ministry through September amount to BGN 5,31 M, writes the newspaper.

In 2011, it transpired that the Ministry had received donations totalling BGN 12 M, which raised significant public controversy.

As a counter-measure, the Bulgarian government laid down rules stating that the Ministry cannot received donations from organizations other than state structures and municipalities.

According to the Trud report however, in 2012 the Interior Ministry has continued receiving funds from private institutions.
