The Bulgarian government will allocate more money for university student scholarships in 2013, Bulgarian Education Minister Sergey Ignatov has promised.

Ignatov has clarified that the move will not necessarily lead to higher scholarships, since it is the universities that decide on how to spend the money.

The Education Minister has also told reporters that the state plans to increase its financial support for science.

He also expressed his hope that Sofia's large College City campus area will "become a safer place."

Recently, night clubs, bars and gambling halls were banned from dormitories and university-owned properties within the campus area.
