Maxim, the elderly Bulgarian Orthodox Church Patriarch, has been listed for treatment in the Government Hospital in Sofia.

The news was reported by TV7, informing that the Patriarch has not fallen ill, but is monitored over his advanced age.

Maxim, who turned 97 last October, has been hospitalized after serving the mass for Dormition of Mary on August 15 at the Troyan Monastery.

Doctors at the hospital assuage that his age is the only reason for him being there. They remind he has suffered from diabetes in the last 60 years, however, his overall condition is good.

The Patriarch is moving without any help, but is under the care of a nurse round-the-clock.

Doctors further say Maxim is a great patient, listening to and following their advice.
