Surge in Passengers Strains Sofia's Public Transport Budget
The Sofia Municipality has reported an increase in public transport usage, with 19 million more passengers in 2024, translating to about 90,000 additional daily trips,
Over eighty passengers were stranded at Sofia International Airport Thursday evening for over six hours.
Nova TV reports Friday that they were scheduled by a Bulgarian travel agency to travel to Tunisia on a charter flight.
All have been put on a bus to take them to the plane and forced to stay inside the vehicle for nearly an hour. They were sent back to the departure gate only after threatening a riot.
The plane finally left around midnight. A representative of the said travel agency explained the incident has been caused by the delayed arrival of the craft from Tunisia and some unresolved issues between the fuel suppliers and the airline carrier.
She noted that all passengers were provided with food and drinks during their forced stay at the airport, adding they are all in Tunisia now.
