Spanish airline Vueling has denied that its flight from Spain, which landed at the Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam causing a terror alert, has been hijacked.

A Vueling spokesperson said that the confusion is due to miscommunication between the pilot and the control tower, the BBC reported.

National broadcaster NOS has spoken by phone with a person it identifies as one of the passengers on board who says that the plane was calm and there was no hostage situation

The Dutch defense ministry earlier scrambled F-16 fighters to intercept the plane, which had apparently taken off from Malaga.

Dutch military police said security forces had surrounded the plane with the passengers still on board.
