Several large-scale wildfires gained traction in various parts of Bulgaria on Monday.
A major wildfire in the Beli Bor ("White Pine") region in the Rila Mountain has been raging for five days, with the local authorities being ready to call in the Bulgarian Air Force at any moment, Darik Radio reported.
Unlike most of the other wildfires raging all over Bulgaria, the one in Beli Bor was contained on Monday, with 150 fire fighters, military, police, and forestry officers taking part in tackling the fire on an area of 370 acres.
Another, smaller wildfire in the Rile Mountain, broke out fresh, and has engulfed 75 acres.
A large fire was raging Monday in the northwestern Vidin District, near the village of Kiraevo, along the border with Greece.
The fire engulfed some 500 acres in a largely inaccessible area without threatening the local villages.
In the mean time, the southeastern Bulgarian municipality of Sredets declared a state of emergency over a wildfire raging on 900 acres.
