The southeastern Bulgarian municipality of Sredets, Burgas District, has declared a state of emergency over a massive wildfire.

The wildfire on Monday engulfed 900 acres with forests, bushes, and grassland, on a 7-km long front.

Sredets Mayor Ivan Zhabov declared a state of emergency as the flames threatened four villages – Valchanovo, Slivovo, Sinyo Kamene, and Granitets.

Zhabov said 150 volunteers are tackling the wildfire, aiding fire fighters from Burgas, Sliven, Elhovo, and Topolovgrad.

For the time being, the Sredets Municipality has not request the help of the Bulgarian Air Force.
