Code red for extremely dangerous weather has been declared for six Bulgarian regions over expected extremely high temperatures in the lasting summer heat wave.

All other regions of Bulgaria are under code orange for dangerous weather, announced the National Institute of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Code red has been called for the northern regions of Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Lovech, Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse where temperatures are expected to reach 38-42 degrees Celsius.

New temperature records are expected across the country.

Forecasters also warned that due to the continued drought and heat, there are good conditions present for new wildfire.

Monday and Tuesday wind will bring cooler air to Bulgaria and lower highs to 25-30 C.
