A Code Orange alert has been declared in 24 Bulgarian districts, as temperatures are expected to reach 41 C on Friday.

Code Orange means that the weather could pose health risks to sensitive groups.

The less dangerous Code Yellow alert has been declared in the country's four remaining districts - Smolyan, Sofia city, Sofia district, and Pernik.

Code Yellow means potentially dangerous weather, where the forecast is not for unusual meteorological events, but requires people to exercise caution.

Temperatures are expected to reach 37 C in Sofia and Plovdiv, while Bulgaria's Black Sea coastline has to brace for 39 C.
