"The Expendables 2," an action movie that was shot mostly in Bulgaria has topped the weekend box office.

The star-packed flick debuted at No. 1, as it gathered USD 28.8 M, according to studio estimates Sunday. The sequel opened in 3,316 theaters, averaging USD 8,670 per screen.

However, the film's first weekend gross was down from the USD 34.8 M start for "The Expendables" two years ago.

"The Bourne Legacy" finished with a weekend gross of USD 17 M, while "ParaNorman" gathered USD 14 M.

"The Expendables 2" was released across Europe on August 16, 2012, followed by a North American release on August 17. It has so far received mostly positive reviews by critics and on IMDb.

The movie stars Sylvester Stallone, Jean Claude Van-Damme, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris and Jason Statham, among others.
