A mass fight broke out before the holiday service for major Muslim feast Eid ul-Fitr Sunday in the main mosque of second-largest Bulgarian city Plovdiv, report many Bulgarian media.

The Plovdiv police however has denied reports of a fight, saying it was alerted, but there was no violence present at the site.

According to news site News.bg, some 1,000 of the 5,000 present for the service participated in the alleged mass fight.

They were reportedly of Roma ethnicity and were fighting due to property disputes within the local Muslim community.

According to News.bg, ethnic Turkish Muslims from the area have repeatedly complained of similar behavior from Roma Muslims in Plovdiv's Dzhumaya Cami mosque.

Sunday is the first day of the three-day Eid ul-Fitr holiday, known in Bulgaria and Turkey as Ramazan Bayram, marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
