Bulgaria's Main Directorate for the Fight against Organized Crime, GDBOP have prevented the sale of a newborn online.

The GDBOP probe has been launched after the administrators of the hugely-popular internet forum BG-Mamma alerted the GDBOP Cyber Crime Unit about a shocking posting of a user, who offered for sale a 3-day-old girl.

In the ad, the parents have written that they had no way of taking care of the baby, but because they did not want for their girl to grow up in orphanages, they offered her for "adoption." They also left a phone number for interested "customers."

GDBOP officers have established the identity of the father, 31, and the mother, 25, who live in the capital Sofia. During the interrogation, they have explained that they have been strapped for cash. Both have been unemployed and the grand parents had refused any help.

The baby is now in a social assistance home for children without parents. The case has been referred to the Sofia District Prosecutors Office.
