Involving 3 500 performers in the Olympic Stadium, artistic director Kim Gavin said the ceremony would be "the best after-show party of all time". It will focus on 50 years of British music as a "mashed-up symphony" and is expected to gather some of the biggest stars of the British musical scene such as Paul McCartney, Elton John, George Michael, the Spice Girls, and some favorites of the younger generation – Muse, who authored Survival, the official anthem of the Games, Adel, and the boys band One Direction.
Legendary Rolling Stones, who have not taken the stage together since 2007 and just celebrated half century since the founding of the group, are also expected to have confirmed their participation.
The Bulgarian National Television, BNT, will air the closing ceremony live, starting at 11 pm local time.
