Bulgarian fire fighters were sent to Greece on Saturday to help their Greek colleagues in the putting out of a wildfire near the Bulgarian monastery on the Holy Mountain, or Mount Athos.
A total of 10 fire fighters with two trucks from the southwestern city of Blagoevgrad have headed off to Mount Athos, Bulgaria's Chief Commissar Nikolay Nikolov, the head of the Bulgarian fire fighting service, announced Saturday.
They will help tackle the wildfire that erupted on Wednesday near the Bulgarian monastery on Mount Athos, the St. Georgi Zograf Monastery.
A total of 25 Greek fire fighting units using five planes and two helicopters are tackling the fire on Mount Athos where each Orthodox Christian nation has had a monastery since the Middle Ages.
