Bulgaria and north-neighboring Romania surprisingly announced today they will join their efforts to enter European Union. It happened at the meeting of both Prime ministers Simeon Saxe-Coburg and Adrian Nastase in Borovets, nearby Sofia. It is the first foreign visit on a governmental level since King Simeon won the elections and became prime minister of Bulgaria. Until now it was widely considered that each country has its own way to the EU and must `survive alone` on its road to the Union. `We would like to give society, the media and the factors abroad a clear signal for the adoption of a tandem formula. We consider EU and NATO memberships to be common priorities and we would like to assist each other in achieving these goals,` Romanian PM Nastase said. Saxe-Coburg described the meeting as fruitful and interesting and said similarities have been identified between the two countries` governments in what is upcoming and what they consider important - EU and NATO. `We will discuss the more important direct issues such as the Kozlodoui N-plant and will leave the more specific ones to the competent bodies an institutions,` Saxe-Coburg replied when asked if the decommissioning of the N-plant`s old reactors was discussed.
