An earthquake of a 3.3 magnitude on the Richter scale has been registered overnight in the area of the Bulgarian capital Sofia and the western city of Pernik.
The quake was reported by both the European Seismology Center and the Geophysical Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS)
The tremor was registered at 3:10 am Tuesday, at a depth of 10 kilometers and the epicenter was 3 km southeast of Pernik and 27 kilometers west of Sofia. It was felt in Pernik and nearby villages.
No casualties or damage have been reported, but the Mayor of Pernik, Rositsa Yanakieva, said before bTV that people in Pernik have panicked and have once again left their homes in a hurry in a reminiscence of the 5.8 earthquake that rattled the city on May 22. The latest quake is believed to be an aftershock.
