Large Wildfire Blazes in Southern Bulgaria

Society » ENVIRONMENT | July 26, 2012, Thursday // 19:50

A wildfire covering some 300 acres is blazing Thursday evening in the Thracian valley of southern Bulgaria.

The blaze is located at the meeting of the administrative division between Stara Zagora, Haskovo and Yambol regions.

Firefigher teams are concentrated in the area and are trying to stop the advance of the flames.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a tractor who malfunctioned and burst into flame after hitting a stone.

The wild fire is raging in areas covered by agricultural land, shrubs and decidious forests.

Over the past weeks, Bulgaria has been hit by a persistent heat wave that has prepared good conditions for the eruption of wildfires.
